1983 Designers’ Showcase

In the summer of 1983, Ian Spraggon suggested the idea of a designer showcase as a fundraiser to Theodosia Tytaneck. A small house was chosen, and six designers each picked a room in the house to design. The designers were given two weeks to completely re-design their space, and then the house was open to guests to tour through for three weeks. A route was mapped through the small house to aide in the flow of traffic. The visitors concluded their tour through the garage, where Mrs. Tytaneck had arranged for 9 hobby artists to have tables set up with goods for purchase.

Andres provided champagne for the opening night of the Showcase, and Broadway Gardens was approached for help with the garden. Prizes were donated, and a raffle was held. In total, about $15,000-$16,000 was raised for the Niagara Symphony.

Everything that Mrs. Tytaneck did to help out the Symphony was “always for the love of music”. Following the Designers’ Showcase, Mrs. Tytaneck organized another fundraiser. This time, 5 homes were chosen, to host cocktail hours. On the same night each home was stocked with wine that had been donated, and members of the Women’s Committee assisted the hostesses with hors d’oeuvres. Different groups of musicians were assigned to each house, and patrons purchased a ticket for the evening. They chose which cocktail party they would like to attend, sampled some wine and hors d’oeuvres, enjoyed some music, and then had the option to move on to another cocktail party.

Mrs. Tytaneck still attends symphony concerts!
