Five young musical composers from city public schools gather behind a lectern as Milton Barnes, conductor of the St. Catharines Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, shows them the Children’s Corner Suite he composed from original themes they entered in a contest. Youthful composers of the five movements the orchestra played yesterday are: sitting, Susan Hunter from Prince Philip School, whose work became the Jig; Janice Newman, Lakebreeze School, who wrote basis for Doll’s Promenade; standing, from left, Christine Davidek, Dalewood School, who wrote theme for Romance movement; Betty Jane Pidduck, Robertson School, composed basis of Folk Song; and Elizabeth Vomberg, Queen Mary School, who did work for Popular Dance. Their entries were chosen by Mr. Barnes as the best submitted by more than 100 children in city elementary schools.
