Musicians Hold Jam Session Before Departing
Months of anticipation and practice come to fruition for these seven area youngsters tomorrow when they leave for Toronto and four weeks of orchestra training at the University of Toronto. They were chosen in December along with 99 other youngsters to form the annual National Youth Orchestra – an orchestra made up of the best youth talent for a two-week concert tour of Canadian cities. This year the group will play to eastern Canada and Maritime audiences.
Surrounding the final member of the team, Sue Richards, 16, of 1 Wychwood St., who was only notified of her selection yesterday, are from top-right clockwise: Bruce Plumb, 17, of 73 Downing St.; Kirk Laughton, 19, of 34 Cameron Dr.; Dan Fuzzen, 17, of RR1, Jordan Station; John Langley, 17, of 96 Glenwood Dr.; David Spence, 19, of 595 Bunting Rd. and Stuart Laughton, 17, of 34 Cameron Dr.
The Niagara Youth Orchestra has had several students audition for the National Youth Orchestra. For many years students were accepted. In 1969, a total of 7 students from St. Catharines were chosen to be members of the National Youth Orchestra.
