(Left) The Radiumhemmet (literally, “house of radium”) is the first therapeutic laboratory for radium research in Sweden. It opened in 1910 in Stockholm in a rented apartment. Still active today, the Radiumhemmet is now part of the Karolinska University Hospital. (Right) Instigated by George VII, the London Radium Institute opened in 1911. Today the building is home to the United Kingdom’s Algerian embassy.
