Thousands of GM employees and their families gathered every year in the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s for the annual GM picnic in Lakeview Park on the Oshawa waterfront. The park itself had been established on land that Sam McLaughlin, on behalf of GM, donated to the City of Oshawa.
