Preparing Sandwiches, 1955

Supporting thousands of picketing strikers was a monumental task in 1955. Strikers’ wives and members of the Local 222 Women’s Auxiliary organized kitchen assembly lines, preparing tens of thousands of sandwiches in rotating nine-hour shifts to keep up with the demand for food.
