Fern Fossil

A rough piece of gray stone, covered in the imprints left behind by a fern plant.

This specimen from the Late Cretaceous was found alongside other plant fossils in Nanaimo’s Protection formation, after construction of a road leading to the Duke Point ferry terminal unearthed it and its fellow specimens.
