Much like C. yokoyamai, Neophylloceras was a very successful type of ammonite that has specimens found and described all over the world. Another specimen from the Cretaceous, it stands apart from other ammonites due to the very fine ribbing that covers its shell.
Ammonites are very widespread and varied. This makes them good index fossils— particular species found in rock layers that help scientists to determine the age of the rocks.
