Unearthing the Ammonite: Step 2

Not wanting to disturb the final resting place of this ammonite, or damage the impression it had left in the rock, Graham Beard decided that a cast of the fossil should be made. For this purpose, he recruited his friend, Rod Bartlett (in the blue jacket).
This was not an easy job. It was early October by the time they began making a fibreglass cast of the ammonite, and the rocks were very cold. It took all day, even with the help of a hand-held heater, to make the cast.
