Named after both Canada and the Japanese paleontologist Matajirō Yokoyama, C. yokoyamai is known from fossils found along the Eastern coast of Vancouver Island. Its range isn’t limited to there, however; fossils of C. yokoyamai have been found as far north as Alaska and as far south as California, and across the Pacific Ocean in Japan!
This wide range speaks to the success and abundance of ammonites in their heyday.
The fossils shown here were found near a lake in Nanaimo.
