Looking for Fossils on Hornby Island

Hornby Island: One of Graham Beard’s favourite spots to search for fossils.
Graham first heard about the area’s wealth of fossils when he was in university. Since then he has found the fossilized remains of tylosaurs, ammonites, birds, crabs, and a great variety of other organisms. The majority of these date from the Upper (Late) Cretaceous.
Many of the finds from this location are found in concretions, which form as minerals gather around an organism during fossilization.
