Clergue’s Furnished Blockhouse

While establishing his operations in the Sault, Clergue lived in his refurbished ‘blockhouse’. Himself and his brother, an engineer with the company, both lived in the wooden upper section. From here they could directly supervise construction and conduct meetings. The restored blockhouse now resides at the Ermatinger-Clergue National Historic Site on Bay Street, several kilometers east of its original location. Visitors can explore Clergue’s living quarters restored to their appearance of the 1890s.
