When I started at the paper maker… No 1 paper machine. At that particular time it was producing coloured paper. The colours were pink, green, yellow, and peach. We also made on No 1 a heavy caliper paper that they used for children’s drawing books and colouring books. No 2 was strictly news print, and then later on they converted to telephone directory – it was pink and white I believe. It was all shipped to either South Africa or Australia until they started producing their own. No 3… it produced newsprint but it also produced a quality paper called rotogravure, then they went over to computer paper. No 4, I believe was mainly newsprint, but when we had some downtime and the industry was on a low ebb, we manufactured …. wallpaper and also we had trial runs with paper plates, which didn’t really pan out. The idea was just to keep the mill running and people working. Then of course when Alexander took over we went into supercalender B. Those are about the ones that I remember the most.
