A Hand Brand can of that period.
Alain Caron.
Hand Brand was one of the most profitable spirits that was sold. It was an inexpensive drink distilled in the Saint-Pierre-and-Miquelon islands. It had a high alcohol content, and was often diluted with coloured water before being resold, to disguise it as whisky or rum. For example, smugglers would pay about $3 for a 2.5-gallon metal container that they resold for $7. This very lucrative business was therefore highly profitable for the men involved.
