We sounded the death knell. I had asked my parishioners to say the Lord’s Prayer at 8 am wherever they were; at home, in a store or restaurant, even if there were strangers present who did not follow our custom. This religious practice needed to be observed. Everyone had to kneel. It was the same at Fred Lévesque’s. At the first sound of the bell, Lévesque, when he was there, was the first to say: “On your knees, boys, for our Father.” One evening when someone was making fun of this pious custom, Lévesque grabbed a pool cue and knocked him out, telling him not to come and make fun of our religion.
