The first Saint-Jean-de-Dieu Hospital, circa 1885
Sisters of Providence Archives
The first Saint-Jean-de-Dieu Hospital, inaugurated in 1875, was located on Notre-Dame Street, along what is currently Highway 25. The hospital was administered by the Sisters of Providence who owned a narrow strip of land between the Saint Lawrence River and Ville d’Anjou, further up north. This complex was rebuilt after being devastated by a fire in 1890.
