A map of the Longue-Pointe parish in 1879
Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec
Drawn by Henry W. Hopkins, this map shows the parcelling of land in Longue-Pointe. The narrow plots, granted by the Sulpicians — the seigneurs of the Island of Montreal starting in 1663 — extended inland from the Saint Lawrence River. Longue-Pointe was divided in its centre by the land of the Sisters of Providence, who administered the Saint-Jean-de-Dieu psychiatric hospital.
