The Victoria Bridge, 1958
Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec
The construction of the Saint Lawrence Seaway required the building of a bypass at the south entrance of the bridge in order for larger ships to pass through without interrupting traffic. The Canadian National, who owned the bridge, used this opportunity to add another lane towards Montreal. Before, circulation on the bridge would alternate following peak hours towards Montreal in the morning, and towards the south shore in the evening.
