Montreal Locomotive Works, the main supplier for the Canadian National Railway Company, opened in 1903 and hired more than 2000 workers. From 1943 to 1944 the factory was used to make Ram tanks. The decline in rail transport during the post-war years would finally seal its fate. After several layoffs, the company closed its doors in 1997.
