Canadian athlete and activist Terry Fox grew up right here in Port Coquitlam, BC. After having one leg amputated due to osteosarcoma at the age of eighteen, Terry decided to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research. He ran a total of 5,373 km over the course of 143 days, raising $1.7 million. Today, the Terry Fox Run is held annually throughout Canada and the world, continuing to raise money for cancer research in commemoration of Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope.
