Created in 1667 by François de Laval, La Grande Ferme and La Petite Ferme quickly grew into substantial farming operations. By 1681, they boasted about thirty employees and over 130 head of livestock. Right up until the Conquest, La Grande Ferme was the focal point of community life, and was also home to the Saint-Joachim Church.
