This official document attesting to the marriage of Anne Cloutier, daughter of Zacharie and Xainte, and Robert Drouin is believed to be the oldest marriage contract in Canada. It bears Zacharie’s “signature” (the axe at the bottom of the second page) as well as Anne Cloutier and Xainte’s marks.
