Ducretet-Thompson Car Radio, 1951

The silver metal radio has two ivory-coloured knobs and shows the frequency numbers on the dial. To the left of the radio you see the detached beige and metal coloured loudspeaker box with a cable outlet and an attachment mechanism on its bottom.

Although available as early as the 1920s, car radios like this became increasingly common in the postwar years. Radio became a companion to commuters driving to work and provided the soundtrack to road trips across the country.
