CBC Transmission Station (CBL)

The white one-storey structure with blue accents on a sunny day displays its decorated facade and its simple side.

Designed by the CBC’s chief architect, David Gordon McKinstry, CBL opened in Hornby, Ontario in 1937. Transmission stations like CBL became symbols of the CBC, not only by bringing programming into many homes across the region but through its modern design. The facade expresses the modernity of radio with its streamline decoration and modern typography.
