Interior View of Transmission Station CBL

The transmission stations designed and built by the CBC beginning in 1937 received visitors who were fascinated with the new technology. Back then, visitors could view operations from behind the slick, Art Deco railings. They would have seen a map of the country on the floor, marking out the location of all the major stations. CBC removed this map when they made upgrades to the transmission equipment. The design of the door hardware, railings, rows of glass bricks, and curving wall that encloses the operator’s office still give a sense of how the CBC saw itself as a modern institution in the 1930s.
