Robin Valentine
Video still. From the Rossland Memories Oral History Project. Rossland Museum & Discovery Centre Collection.
Robin ski raced in the 1960’s in Northern Ontario and came west in 1967 to attend Notre Dame University in Nelson, BC. The first ski race he worked on was the du Maurier International at Red Mountain in 1968 as a gatekeeper.
Robin and his wife, Flori, moved to Rossland in 1978 with their two boys, Brad and Sean, who quickly joined the local Nancy Greene Ski League. Robin and Flori supported Red Mountain Racers ski races for the next 15 years. As Brad and Sean progressed from the Nancy Greene League to the Bantam League and onto FIS races, Robin became Chief of Calculations and Flori became the Race Secretary. They worked on Nancy Greene league races, FIS races, Canadian Championships, NorAms and the 1988 Women’s World Cup. Robin also went to the Olympics in Calgary in 1988 to train for the Women’s World Cup at Rossland as Chief of Timing and Calculations. As well, Robin and Flori were both on the Red Mountain Racer Executive as President and Secretary respectively, from 1987 to 1990.
They continue to ski at Red Mountain and support the Red Mountain Racers.
