Butch Boutry

Butch Boutry was born and raised in Rossland. He was a Red Mountain Ski Team member from 1954-64 and Canadian National Ski Team member from 1959-63. He was the 1960 Toronto Ski Club Champion, and won the Western Canadian Men’s Ski Championships in 1963. From 1973-75, he coached the Canadian National Ski Team – he put together the ski team that would become the original Crazy Canucks. In 1976 he became the Head Coach of the Canadian National Disabled Ski Team and coached them at many Olympic Games all over the world. In 1988, Butch took the World’s Disabled Ski Team to the Calgary Olympics as a demonstration sport. Butch has also coached the Red Mountain Racers, and has been involved with the Canadian Ski Coaches Federation and Canadian Ski Association. In 2002, Butch was inducted into the Canadian Ski Coaches Hall of Fame, has a lifetime membership for the Canadian Ski Coaches Federation, and was inducted into the Home of Champions in Trail, BC. In 1975, Butch and his wife Enza built and now continue to run the Butch Boutry Ski Shop to equip skiers from Rossland and all over the world.
