Archives du Séminaire de Trois-Rivières, Albert Tessier Fonds, 0014-P1-63-09.
Reverend Albert Tessier, pioneer of Québec documentary filmmaking, brought his camera to take pictures of an edition of the Classique internationale de canots de la Mauricie circa 1935.
Tessier’s work includes nearly seventy films, including Scènes du Haut-Saint-Maurice (1932), C’est l’aviron qui nous mène (1942) and Gloire à l’eau (1950).
His short films are prayers portrayed through film as well as tributes to adventurers and to nature, which is a fundamental element of French-Canadian identity.
