Quite A Trip Down the Matawin River
Appartenance Mauricie Société d’histoire régionale, Le Nouvelliste Fonds
In 1948, log drivers used this timber slide to move spruce logs through this swamp to the Matawin River, one of the main tributaries of the Saint-Maurice River.
While each slide is different to suit the terrain, timber slides all have the same structures with high edges positioned on a slight slope. These slides diverted part of a river’s water flow so that logs could bypass waterfalls, rapids or swamps.
