The conservation of natural habitats benefits plants and animals, but it’s also good for Laval residents. The Parc de la Rivière-des-Mille-Îles, with its 42-km watercourse, is popular with water sports enthusiasts. Having an average depth of barely 1.5 m and a low flow, the river is suitable for many activities. In the summer, you can canoe, kayak, take out a pedal boat or even paddle a rabaska canoe. Fishing is popular and there are walking trails on 20 or so of the islands and shorelines. In winter, activities include tobogganing, ice fishing, snowshoeing, walking, cross-country skiing and skating on a 1-km trail.
