This picture, published in the local newspaper La Frontière, shows the results of the referendum held on the amalgamation of the cities Rouyn and Noranda, which occurred on March 23, 1986. Despite the “Norandiens” voicing strong opposition to federation, the “Yes” side won. Yet, it wasn’t until years later that they took on the demonym “Rouyn-Norandien” on March 26, 1990.
