Given that prospectors must live far away from areas of settlement for weeks on out, they needed a lot of material. But because of the remoteness and the fact that they frequently had to carry stuff back and forth, they would have to keep their bags very light. They had to make do with only the necessities. On the picture, we can see a prospector bag, a compass, a magnifying glass, knives, a hammer, brass wires for snares, maps, pliers, a cord to facilitate transport, rudimentary cooking equipment, etc.
