Sand Filter Plant
Source: Oshawa Museum, Archival Collection
Date: 1919
The sand obtained from the sand filter plant was used for the construction of the General Motors north plant in 1920. It was discontinued because the beach sand was not sharp enough to make good concrete. Notice the trees surrounding the Port Oshawa Pioneer Cemetery in the background. The view, taken from the breakwater looking east, shows a close-up of the plant operation.
