A bulk cargo ship unloads raw sugar at the Oshawa harbour. Barter Haulage brought the raw sugar to the Westcane Sugar refinery a short distance from the docks. Ships arrived in the spring with loads of raw sugar. Later in the fall the ships came in faster as they needed to store enough raw sugar to last the winter while the St. Lawrence Seaway was closed.
