The photo shows the Argyle, a passenger steamer, moored at the Oshawa pier. The goods shed and ticket offices were located in the building at the end of the quay, to the right of the photo. The normal fare to Toronto was seventy-five cents for a return ticket. Horse-drawn coal wagons used the railroad tracks to load coal, which was used to power the ship.
The Argyle was operated by the Lake Ontario Navigation Company in Toronto. Sailed regularly between Toronto and the Thousand Islands.
