The focus of the Oshawa Railway was on Simcoe Street, through the middle of Oshawa. Not only did this serve the most residents, giving them connections with the town’s downtown, it was also the most direct route between the Port of Oshawa and the Grand Trunk Railway north of the city. The railroad was built to be electric from the start. The line opened to the public on June 13, 1895
