REPORT ON THE FIRST MEETING OF THE SOLIDARITY COALITION
Wednesday, August 3, 1983, 7:00 p.m.

1. Registration
Chairperson Art Kube reported on organizations represented at the meeting.
2. Agenda Approval
Moved/seconded that the agenda be approved as circulated. Carried
3. Report on Legislation and Labour’s/Other Responses
Art Kube, President of the BC Federation of Labour reported on the actions of labour to date in respect to the government’s budget and legislative package.
(a) Formation of Public Sector Steering Committee
(b) Formation of Operation Solidarity
(c) Protests in Victoria (July 27) and Lower Mainland (August 10)
(d) Initiation of Solidarity Coalition
Representatives from numerous community groups spoke briefly about the adverse effects of government legislation on their members.
4. Interim Operational Statement
Moved/seconded that the interim operational statement be approved in principle. (See attached.) Carried
5. Interim Structural Recommendations
Moved/seconded that the interim structural recommendations be approved as amended. Carried
6. August 10 Rally
Moved/seconded that this Solidarity Coalition endorse and support the August 10 rally. Carried
7. The meeting adjourned at 9:05 p.m.
