Map of the Proposed Arrow Lakes Reservoir
“The New Outlook for the Arrow Lakes.” British Columbia Hydro and Power Authority.
This map was published in “The New Outlook for the Arrow Lakes,” produced by BC Hydro and Power Authority in 1965.
The 32-page book outlined the vision for the new valley and spoke of the old way of life as outdated and no longer valid. “Many of the original communities have shrunk – or even disappeared entirely – although the original building lots remain; most orchards, with a few exceptions, such as Renata, are abandoned and cleared land supports only a few horses or cattle; most river landings are deserted; the houses are often heavy with years and many are derelict. In other words, for reasons of necessity or sentiment, many of the residents have retained the old settlement pattern. But the original reasons for that pattern vanished long ago.”
