Mount Cartier Settlement, circa 1950
Revelstoke Museum and Archives photograph 5313.
The first Ukrainian and Polish settlers came to the Mount Cartier region in 1908. The small community, nestled at the base of Mount Cartier, was officially named in 1929, and by the 1940s, had a population of about 175. They had their own church, school, community hall, and Post Office. The community was displaced with the creation of the Arrow Lakes reservoir.
