In 1964, Bruck Mills is asked by Alan Winship of the Privy Council Office of the Government of Canada to undertake the production of several prototypes of the Canadian flag. This task, carried out with the utmost confidentiality, is part of the process that leads to the adoption of the Maple Leaf Flag by the House of Commons and the Senate in December 1964. The flag dedication ceremony takes place on February 15, 1965 on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.
