Measuring a loom’s warp beam, a precision job

Credit: Cowansville Historical Society
An operator checks the length of a warp beam in front of a loom. The warp beam is a cylinder around which the warp yarn is wound for weaving. You can see the individual threads being passed through the teeth of an adjustable comb, which allows for a perfect winding of the yarn on the warp beam that weighs about 700 pounds.
