Women were an integral part of Kenwood’s workforce. While not afforded the same positions nor pay scale as their male counterparts, they were still able to contribute financially to their household.
The central group of seated women are working to join, or splice, the massive paper-makers’ felts into loops. When felts were later woven in continuous loops, splicers were no longer needed.
Those standing around the edges are inspecting felts and blankets for imperfections.
