Goderich lighthouse

The lighthouse was built in 1847 and was the second lighthouse to be built on the Canadian side of Lake Huron. During the Great Storm of 1913, the light would have been on the entire time but it would have done little to help ships out on the lake due to the severe conditions of the storm. One change that was made after the Great Storm was the change from the kerosene lamp to an electrical system. This change eliminated the need for a full-time lighthouse keeper and ensured that the light would be on all the time.
