This photograph shows the gap between the south and north breakwaters. It is this gap that was heavily debated during the inquest into the Great Storm of 1913. It was said it was very difficult for ships to enter the Goderich harbour in rough weather due to this narrow gap. To this day, in rough weather, lake freighters still find it difficult to enter the harbour because of this gap.
