Alfred Crocker (A.C.) Leighton was born on October 27, 1900 in Hastings, Sussex, England to Charles James Leighton and Amelia Frances Leighton, née Jenner. A.C. was named after his uncle Alfred on his mother’s side, and after his paternal grandmother, Caroline Leighton, née Crocker. He was the eldest of three boys; Reginald Crocker and Gerald Crocker were his brothers.
