Rowing Oar

Rowing oar reportedly used by “The Paris Crew”. These oars are painted brown with a white triangle on the end of the paddle. The shaft of the oars have routed out channels, some of which have been filled in with a substance like putty.
They have no stretchers, no buttons on their oars, and no coxswain, the bow oar having command of the boat by means of a contrivance which simply gives a slight sheer. They … are thoroughly good powerful fellows, and although they only get half forward, and not at all back, there is an enormous amount of work done in the water.
