Construction of a retirement home began as an initiative of pensioner Pierre Chartrand and president of operations Yvan Duchesne. The company provided financial assistance for the project, while the labour primarily comprised former employees from various plant trades. Since it opened, retirees have met there for various activities: billiards, pétanque, ping pong, card games, dance classes, etc. Breakfasts and dinners are also held often.
When HIG Capital took over the business in 2014, it purchased only the Rolland Company, not the land on which the heritage buildings and retirement home stand. These were sold two years later to Groupe Médifice. Since then, the retirement home’s future has been increasingly in jeopardy, as it is no longer protected by the town or the company.
