As soon as he arrived in Saint-Jérôme, Stanislas Rolland became closely involved in the community. He was a city councillor and later mayor, from 1893 to 1901, as well as chairman of the school board, a marguillier (churchwarden), and a founding member of the chamber of commerce in 1899.
As mayor, he set in motion a number of projects, including a new train station, the Saint-Jérôme cathedral, a cast-iron water main, and bridges, and secured the town’s charter in 1895. In 1934, he was appointed president of the Provincial Bank of Canada and became one of the most prominent French Canadians in the realm of finance and industry.
He died in 1935, following 70 years of active life dedicated to the business and manufacturing of paper.
