Gunner Harold Dickens McCann

Harold Dickens McCann was born on 17 October 1897 in London, ON. His parents were Bernard and Evelyn McCann of 422 Central Ave. He worked as a clerk at the Bank of Montreal. On 2 April 1918 he joined the 63^rd Depot Battery of the Canadian Field Artillery in London. In September of 1918 he joined the 85^th Btn. of the Siberian Expeditionary Force while undergoing training in Petawawa. This force was sent to Vladivostok, Russia to oppose the Russian Revolution and attempt to keep Russia fighting against Germany. While en route to British Colombia, Gunner McCann fell ill with influenza and bronchopneumonia. Gunner McCann was admitted to the New Westminster B.C. Coquitlam Military Hospital where he died of his illness on 13 October 1918.

He is commemorated on page 453 of the First World War Book of Remembrance, (Memorial Chamber, Peace Tower, Parliament Hill).
