Maj. Ashplant was born in Haverhill, Great Britain, 23 July 1877. He served during the Boer War as a Military Engineer. While residing in London, ON, he worked as a Civil Engineer and joined the 7th Fusiliers Regiment as a Lieutenant. Ashplant was promoted to Maj. before reaching the Western Front. He was last seen on 22 September 1916 during an attempt to take trenches east of Courcelette, where he died of wounds to the abdomen and legs.
He is commemorated on page 48 of the First World War Book of Remembrance (Memorial Chamber in the Peace Tower on Parliament Hill).
